About

A steady presence during an unfamiliar stage of life

Anchor & Flint exists to help college athletes handle the tax, accounting, and compliance side of NIL income with clarity, discipline, and a long-term view.

Why a firm just for athletes

College athletes can now earn real money from their name, image, and likeness. For many, it is the first meaningful income they have ever had, and it arrives in unusual forms: uneven payments, products instead of cash, deals in more than one state, and income that no employer withholds tax from.

At the same time, athletes are balancing school and competition, and often hearing from parents, agents, teammates, and social media about what to do with the money. Mistakes are common and usually innocent. They are also avoidable with a little structure and timely guidance.

Anchor & Flint was built to provide that structure: professional CPA guidance, delivered consistently, with a focus on how NIL income actually works.

How we work

The principles behind the work

A narrow focus

We work with college athletes who earn NIL income. That focus lets us know the questions before they are asked and build processes that fit how athletes actually get paid.

Year-round, not April only

The decisions that shape a tax bill happen throughout the year. We work in ongoing relationships so guidance arrives before a decision, not after.

Clear expectations

You will know what we are doing, what we need from you, what it costs, and when to expect to hear from us.

Plain explanations

We explain what is happening and why, so athletes and families understand their own finances instead of just signing what is put in front of them.

Discipline over shortcuts

We favor accurate records, sensible reserves, and compliance over clever ideas that promise big savings. Stability is the goal.

The right person for each question

Tax and accounting are our work. Legal, eligibility, immigration, and investment questions belong with other professionals, and we say so.

Matt LaFleur, CPA, founder of Anchor & Flint

Matt LaFleur founded Anchor & Flint to help college athletes and their families make sense of the financial decisions that come with NIL income. He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Ohio and California, with more than a decade of experience in accounting, tax, and financial advisory work.

Matt is also an entrepreneur, business advisor, and leadership coach. That background shapes how he works with athletes: he listens first, explains the options in plain language, and helps build a plan that fits alongside school, competition, and new opportunities.

At Anchor & Flint, Matt helps athletes track NIL income and expenses, plan ahead for taxes, and recognize when a decision deserves a closer look. His goal is steady guidance throughout the year, and financial habits that last well beyond college.

About the name

An anchor holds steady when conditions change. Flint is what you strike to start something. Good financial guidance for a young athlete needs both: stability and discipline underneath, and the initiative to plan ahead instead of reacting after the fact.
